Caravan Palace
SATURDAY

France

Caravan Palace are just crazy about manouche jazz, electronic music and swing. They manage to produce a subtle mixture of guitar, double bass and violin at breakneck speeds. Django Reinhardt’s ghost is omnipresent, and the influence of electro-jazz groups like Gotan Project or Saint-Germain is also noticeable. But Caravan Palace is also the surprise hit of the last decade! Their work has been rewarded with a platinum disc (150,000 copies sold in France). It’s been quite an adventure for a group that came more or less from nowhere …. They were seriously nervous when they got on stage at the Django Reinhardt Festival in Samois in 2007, but they left with a devoted following. The group was on its way. Their first album came out a year later and the rest is history …. They have been performing sold out concerts throughout Europe during their recent tour. Their second album, Panic!, came out this March. They will be putting some swing into Couleur Café, so make sure you hitch yourself to their caravan.
